About

Welcome to Sigma Swan,

To quickly introduce myself, my name is Demitri, I am 32 years old, and for my whole life I have been slightly above average at just about everything I have tried.

From school, to cards, to chess, to sports, to jobs – everything that had an average you could calculate – I would routinely fall just a bit higher than that average. Not too bad, but not exactly great, either.

Then a few years ago, I took up investing as a hobby. I was fully expecting to be average, again. After all, my business school finance professor had convinced me that no one can reliably outperform the market.

But I figured even average would be OK here because I’d gain independence from investment middlemen and have control over my own finances. Plus as a bonus I would have some extra incentive to keep saving.

And for more than four years I have been building a portfolio, reading, and studying dozens of books on investing, statistics, finance, and economics.  I have been applying the long-term investment strategies preached by the master investors, the entire time expecting that I wouldn’t do much better than plain old average.

But, as it turns out I really have a knack for it. My performance has blown away the average and my experience has convinced me that the stock market is not efficient but instead loaded with potential for investors to tap into. In short, I’m happy to say, I have found something at which I am significantly, outrageously, and completely, better than average.

In this blog I hope to share what I’ve learned in the hope of helping others push themselves farther down the bell curve, away from that dreaded average, by investing with a long time horizon and acting like a business owner (which we are!)

This post is a great place to start.

I’d love to hear from you, so contact me here, and make sure you subscribe to stay current on posts.
